Keeping My Chest Healthy wins the Nursing Times Award

Fantastic news that the team have now won their second national award for this amazing project.

The Keeping My Chest Healthy (KMCH) project has been named a national winner at the Nursing Times Awards 2025, recognising the impact of a coproduced, multidisciplinary approach to improving respiratory health for people with learning disabilities.

In recognising the work led by Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, the judges said:

“Congratulations to Bradford District Care for the Keeping My Chest Healthy initiative. This groundbreaking, person-centred project puts people with learning disabilities at the heart of change, shifting care from reactive to proactive to reduce avoidable and premature deaths. Judges said it showcases exceptional learning disability nursing, combining strong nurse leadership with innovative use of AI translation and professional development tools. The approach is scalable, transferable, and delivers both lifesaving outcomes and significant cost savings. Judges called it a true game changer, with the potential to significantly improve health outcomes and reduce premature deaths locally, nationally and further afield.”

For the KMCH team, this recognition reflects what can be achieved when lived experience and professional expertise come together to tackle health inequalities and prevent avoidable illness. It also reinforces the programme’s potential to be implemented at scale across different services and systems.
